Fugifilm FinePix V10 Announced - 5 Megapixel

Finepix_V10Fugifilms has announced for the CES show in Las Vegas the new FinePix V10 Ultra Compact camera. This camera features a 3.4X Optical Zoom lens, 5.1 Megapixel sensor, and the ability to record still photographs and videos. The V10 is expected to be released in March 2006.

Features of the FinePix V10 include:

Real Photo Technology featuring a five MegaPixel Super CCD HR sensor working in tandem with the critically acclaimed RP Processor for sharper photos and more vivid color reproduction with less noise than in comparable camera models.
A 3.4x optical zoom lens from world-renowned lens manufacturer, Fujinon, which provides broadcast-quality lenses for television and movie production. The lens on the FinePix V10 widens to F2.8, a setting that allows additional light to hit the Super CCD. This enables the FinePix V10 to shoot at faster shutter speeds, and a quicker shutter reduces camera shake due to hand movement as well as blurring caused by moving subjects.
Six scene modes ensure precise and correct camera settings for a variety of shooting environments and conditions. These settings help the user maximize picture quality even in the most difficult picture-taking situations.
A 30-frame multi-frame playback mode for viewing groups of photos.
Consumers can purchase the FinePix V10 in March 2006 at a retail cost of $349.

Norcent Introduces DC-820 and DC-520 for CES

Norcent-DC-820Engadget has the goods on two new Norcent digital cameras, the DC-820 and the  DC-520 in time for CES. The new models “are their new “ultra-slim” (at 0.94-inches it’s not that slim) DC-820 and DC-520 eight and five megapixel digital shooters. Both models feature SD/MMC slots, PicBridge support, MPEG-4 video recording at 640 x 480, and 3x optical zoom — standard fare — and neither camera offers a viewfinder.

The DC-520 sports a 2.5-inch LCD and 16MB internal memory while the DC-820 goes a touch smaller at 2.4-inches, but with 32MB on-board.

Expect the 820 and 520 to hit the US streets this January for the low low price of $299 and $199 respectively.” via Engadget

Canon Powershot SD200 Review

Canon-powershot-200-sizeThe Canon Powershot SD200 micro digital camera takes a great picture for a camera its size. Bob Atkins at Photo.net has a good review of the camera. “You don’t buy an SD200 (or SD300/400) for advanced photography. You can get cameras with more capability (aperture priority, shutter priority and manual exposure for example) for the same price or maybe less (e.g. Powershot A510 or Powershot A520) However they are larger and the major reason you’d buy an SD200 is because it’s small. Despite the lack of full manual control, I still like the SD200. In fact I bought one myself so I’d have a camera that I can carry with me at all times. Image quality is quite good and you do have manual control over almost everything except for exposure (and even there you do have exposure compensation). You also get some remarkably good video modes (with audio) including 640×480 at 30fps. The 3.2MP is enough for excellent 4×6 and 5×7 prints and even 8×10 doesn’t look too bad. The price (currently under $180) is pretty low too. If you want more pixels, the SD300 has 4MP  and the SD400 (around $265) has 5MP   in essentially the same camera body with the same camera features. The step up from 3.2MP to 4MP is pretty insignificant, so if you want more pixels than the SD200, I’d go to the 5MP SD400.”
