Canon Powershot A410 3.2 Megapixel Camera Review

Canon A410The Canon Powershot A410 3.2 Megapixel Camera is an entry level camera that provides a very easy and intuitive interface for the beginner to use. This is the camera for Mom, so to speak. It takes a good quality picture, has an easy to use interface, and the pictures live up to the Canon name.

The camera features a 3.2 optical zoom, and provides eight special scene modes, including Portrait, Night Snapshot, Kids & Pets, Indoor, Foliage, Snow, Beach and Fireworks and five Photo Effect modes, including Vivid, Neutral, Low Sharpening, Sepia, and Black & White.

One of the real benefits that the Canon A410 provides is the use of AA batteries. Canon has a processor that is supposed to reduce power consumption, so the A410 can get 400 pictures when using rechargable NiMH batteries.

Again, if you are a serious photographer, this is not the camera for you. But if you want to get a digital camera for the grandparents, the Canon A410 is a very good choice. Priced at around $150 USD this also is an economical camera for a Christmas present.

Sony CyberShot 4 Megapixel DSC - S90 Review

Sony dsc-d90The Sony CyberShot  DSC - S90 compact camera is designed for the consumer who is looking for a long battery life, speed and good picture quality. The Caner features a Carl Zeiss 3X optical zoom,  and provides 32 mb of internal memory and a memory stick slot for extra storage capacity.

The CyberShot DSC-S90 is part of the Stamina series by Sony. These cameras are designed for extra long battery life, while using ordinary AA batteries. The use of disposable batteries is always high on my list, as it keeps the photographer from having to recharge batteries at the end of  the night. Steves Digicams says that “The S90 lets you take approximately 150 shots while using two “AA” type batteries and around 590 shots while using a NIMH rechargeable battery.” Bravo!

One of the great features of this camera is that it offers burst mode, so the photographer can take 4 shots at the full 4 megapixel resolution at a rate of .7frames/sec. This feature of the S90 is not typical in a compact camera.

The DSC-S90 starts in the mid 200 dollar range, a good not great price for a camera such as this. The draw back to the camera is that it is a Sony, so you are stuck with the proprietarty and more expensive memory stick memory.

Samsung SCH-M709 - A New 7 megapixel camera phone???

Samsung has announced the new SCH-M709, a 7 megapixel camera phone that is created to make a huge impact in the marketplace. Seriously, most digital cameras do not have high of a resolution. The key criteria is the quality of the lens and the ccd. If it works as well as it seems, it will be revolutionary cameraphone.

BIOS has some interesting points on this.

Another problem is that digital camera’s zoom capability simply enlarges a section of the original image. A zoom is needed to capture sharp close-ups. The SCH-M709 sports an impressive 3x optical zoom lens, which rivals most entry-level digital cameras.

The SCH-M709 is built for CDMA 2000-1X mobile networks and is designed to look like a mobile phone on one side and a digital camera on the other. The camera phone has a 7-Megapixel camera with a 3x optical zoom and a 5x digital zoom and can take digital still pictures and video. It also has a built-in MP3 player and TV output for viewing images on a larger screen. The phone has a 240×320-pixel LCD screen capable of showing 16 million colors.

Nikon Coolpix S3 Preview

Nikon s3Lets Go Digital has a in depth preview of the Nikon Coolpix S3. This 6 megapixel camera is one of the smallest high quality cameras I have seen. James Bond would have been proud to carry around this one, as it would never have left a crease in his tuxedo.

From Lets Go Digital:

Nikon S3 preview : Just before the IFA 2005 kicked off, Nikon introduced a new series of digital cameras. Amongst them the Nikon Coolpix S3. This stylishly designed digital camera is carried out in various colours. We have had the white version in the office for a few days. The sample we show extensively in this preview is however a so-called pre-production sample. The Nikon S3 digital camera has a beautiful exterior and the compact size makes the Coolpix S3 camera extremely suitable to be carried around with you wherever you go. The high resolution of 6 Megapixels, an internal optical Nikkor lens with a range of 35-105mm and the beautiful 2.5-inch format monitor, make the Nikon Coolpix S3 a surprisingly versatile digital camera.
