Adobe Photoshop Elements 4 for Mac is in Development

With the release of Photoshop Elements 4.0 this week for windows, the Macintosh community was concerned that they were being left behind. Today, Adobe told them that the new version is in development and will be released at a later date.

From MacWorld:

Earlier this week, Adobe Systems Inc. released Photoshop Elements 4, but the new version was for Windows only. With no mention of a new Mac version, some speculated that the company may be phasing out the Mac product, but Adobe said on Thursday that is definitely not happening.

Unlike professionals, consumers who typically purchase products like Photoshop Elements don’t work collaboratively, so simultaneous releases are not as important.

“This reality gives Adobe the opportunity to balance our resources differently for our consumer products, while still delivering the right products at the right time,” said Adobe’s spokesperson.

While Adobe said that its Windows version of Elements did have more sales than the Mac version, the company said they are still committed to the Macintosh community.

Walmart to Roll Out Fugi Digital Photo Kiosks

The war for the development of the digital photograph is heating up as Fugi and Walmart are teaming up to provide a kiosk that will allow dropping of traditional film canisters and uploading of digital card so that photos can be developed in the 3,400 WalMart stores in the USA. The prints will be ready in 2 days.

This is an interesting combination of the traditional and new technologies merging to provide a cost effective solution for the customers.

The Washington Post  reports that the pricing pressure on the market will be intense. “Using the machines, customers can copy thousands of digital images from a portable memory card or compact disc, and pick up the 4-inch-by-6-inch pictures two days later for 15 cents a print at Wal-Mart, and 13 cents a print at Sam’s Club shops.”

From Rueters UK:

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Fuji Photo Co. Ltd.’s U.S. unit on Tuesday unveiled a low-cost film development kiosk in hopes of spurring consumers to print digital snapshots stored on memory cards and home computers.

Kodak Easyshare V550 - 5 Megapixel Camera

V550_Photo_Frame_smThe new Kodak V550 is a consumer camera that shoots a very high quality 5 megapixel consumer camera, with a slim design that breaks away from Kodaks traditional clucky styling.

Trusted Reviews take on the Kodak Easyshare V550

Kodak has been a major player in the digital camera industry from the very start, producing some of the first digital SLR cameras such as the revolutionary DCS420 in conjunction with Canon and Nikon over 10 years ago. It has also been making consumer digital cameras since 1998, which is much longer than most of its rivals. It’s rather odd therefore that until comparatively recently Kodak’s digital cameras have been regarded rather poorly, and the company’s share of the lucrative digital compact market is not as large as one might expect, given that the name Kodak is practically synonymous with consumer photography. Part of the reason for this is that many of its cameras, although generally reliable, capable and easy to use, have lacked a certain style. In fact, many of them have been downright ugly. But all that is about to change, with the launch of the V series, including this, the top-of-the-range V550.

Kodak Easy Share One WIFI Camera Ships

Kodak_oneNever have to worry about memory cards filling up with this camera. If you have a wifi network available to you, you can transfer the images directly to the Kodak Easyshare Gallery as you take the shots. This way you can take pictures and have them immediately up to the web. While this looks like a great idea, the work setting up the camera and moving the pictures to the remote location sounds like it is rife with issues that could ruin your day.

I would much rather have it send the pictures to a directory on your local computer, as opposed to moving the 4 megapixels up over the internet. The camera specs, 4 megapixel, 3 times zoom, do not warrant the $599 price tag, and the wifi is interesting but since it is first generation I would avoid this camera for now. Too little camera and the opportunity for too many headaches.
